In the world of modern pop songs lyrics are usually trite and unimaginative, to say the least.
Thank the stars, then, for Leonard Cohen, for Bob Dylan, for John Lennon, for Eddie Holland, and for Hal David. Likewise for Joni Mitchell, Morrisey, Matt Berninger and Steve Kilbey, and for every other lyricist out there that actually cares.
In a parallel life I was a songwriter. Very few of the twenty or so albums I wrote ended up in production, but I did give some part of myself to every song...
